We generally find that most candidates present with well developed basic skills and knowledge, and in particular we would usually seek:

• good literacy and numeracy skills
• basic information technology skills
• a strongly expressed interest in architecture and the built environment.  

Mature age applicants are welcome and we do find that these candidates do present well and go on to become some of our best achieving students.

The Certificate IV in Residential Drafting will develop a sophisticated practical skill set which is driven by the routine and non-routine production of graphic output using CAD software.  To that end, you will develop skills and underpinning knowledge related to the use of:

• Industry-standard AutoCAD drawing production and presentation for:
  
  • general architectural information, features and systems
  • client requirements, planning and building approval details 
  • effective and fluent presentation output
• Industry-standard fundamentals of Revit 3D modelling 

No previous CAD software experience is required for pre-entry. 

All software is provided through education licensing protocols and you will be provided with the relevant links to access such at various points throughout your academic journey.

• Design office and built environment professional practice and process
• Comprehension of architectural design and styling
• A comprehensive insight into construction materials and methods for residential architecture
• Working knowledge of the planning and building approval processes and requirements
• Generation of work in compliance with the National Construction Code [Building Code of Australia]  

The skills and knowledge package reflects the standard working practice of the architectural draftsperson in support of architects, engineers and building designers.

The skills and knowledge achieved with us provides for ongoing curriculum quality refinement and improvement, whilst simultaneously providing you with the skills most relevant to employers across the industry.

• demonstrated relevant vocational experience, skills and knowledge as RPL commensurate with scope of works covered iun the core units of the Certificate IV in Residential Drafting  

The Diploma of Building Design will develop a sophisticated practical skill set which is driven by the design of project work for a variety of building classifications.   Additionally, underpinning knowledge will be developed in relation to greater sophistication of the understanding of design compliance for both planning and building approval, as well as knowledge pertaining to the routine management of building design projects.     

• Industry-standard Revit modelling production, including:
  
  • complex architectural information, features and systems
  • the development of custom modelling and detailing features
  • more sophisticated graphic output, including rendering and animation 
  • effective and fluent presentation output
    
• Management aspects aspiring to the role of licensed Building Designer, including:
  • construction specifications 
  • contract management
  • business operations

The Advanced Diploma of Building Design will develop a sophisticated practical skill set which is driven by the routine and non-routine production of graphic output using CAD software.  To that end, you will develop skills and underpinning knowledge related to the use of:

• Industry-standard AutoCAD drawing production and presentation for:
  
  • general architectural information, features and systems
  • client requirements, planning and building approval details 
  • effective and fluent presentation output
• as they pertain to the specific and unique characteristics of complex 3 storey structures and the associated design and construction management process for the same  

Extensive previous experience of CAD systems has normally been achieved in earlier course programs, but additional techniques, procedures and processes pertaining to greater complexity and sophistication of building configuration will be a core development objective.  

All software is provided through education licensing protocols and you will be provided with the relevant links to access such at various points throughout your academic journey.

• Design office management and operational effectiveness
  
• Tendering, contractual and associated documentary effectiveness
  
• Project management techniques and procedural effectiveness
  
• Graphic manipulation of BIM reference models and associated BIM management
• Greater sophistication in graphic and documentation output and communication 

The skills and knowledge package reflects the standard working practice of the more senior building designer, operating at a more managerial or supervisory level.
